Veterans Transition Program - Private Debt Associate

The Veterans Transition Program is designed to support veterans in making the transition from military life to the civilian workforce. The Program offers participants the opportunity to work at the world’s largest asset manager for six months. On completion of the Program, successful participants will be offered permanent employment at BlackRock.

Program Structure:

The program begins with an orientation where you’ll learn about BlackRock’s principles, mission, purpose, and culture. You’ll learn about the asset management industry and get an in-depth look at how BlackRock serves its clients. Following orientation, you’ll join your team and gain insights into the day-to-day life of an Associate as you develop subject-matter expertise through on-the-job learning and our industry-leading technology, Aladdin.

Become a Member of our Private Debt Team:

BlackRock Private Debt is an investment pillar within Portfolio Management Group (PMG), BlackRock’s active management platform. We are a dedicated investment team focused on providing debt capital solutions through primarily directly originated investments across the capital structure.

The platform offers an array of illiquid debt products designed to meet specific client risk, return and liquidity profiles across all geographies profiles. The platform has expertise across the stages of company life in opportunistic and distressed debt, specialty finance, middle market investing, venture, high yield, leverage loans, and CLOs. Functionally, the platform is organized into pillars, each corresponding to a different asset class within Private Debt: Real Estate Debt, Direct Corporate Lending, Opportunistic Debt and Multi-Strategy Debt.

Our platform is global with investment professionals in Americas, Europe, and Asia. The teams leverage their industry expertise, proprietary networks of the investment professionals, and the larger BlackRock platform to source unique and differentiated investment opportunities.

About this role

We are seeking an Associate to be responsible for assisting in the due diligence, research and analysis of underwriting debt investments in both the primary and secondary markets in Private Markets context. This position will be an integral part of a small team of highly qualified investment professionals and involved in all aspects of the investment process.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on due diligence, development of investment theses, and creation of investment memoranda to present to portfolio managers and the Investment Committee

  • Assist in the review and coordination of drafting of credit and other investment documents

  • Actively monitor portfolio investment and industry dynamics

What are we looking for?

  • Inquisitive self starter with a thirst and ability to immerse themselves in the technical detail of Private Debt (research, analysis, portfolio monitoring, underwriting, structuring and executing Debt transactions

  • Ability to engage with internal and external parties and working with originators to complete investment opportunities

  • Strong quantitative skills

  • Motivated team player and flexible in approach with ability to work independently

  • Must demonstrate integrity and alignment to BlackRock’s principles and commitment as a trusted fiduciary to our clients

  • Flexible, adaptable with keen attention to detail

  • Open-minded thought process and intellectual honesty with an ability to dynamically adapt to coverage of different products

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – presents ideas in a clear, concise and constructive manner

Where will I be based?

This role will be based in our New York Office

Program Eligibility:

  • Minimum of two years of Active Uniformed service

  • No more than 8 years of civilian work experience

  • Bachelor’s degree obtained pre- or post-military service

  • Open to all U.S. Veterans, regardless of rank or branch of service

  • Must be able to commence employment in October 2024

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $180,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
