BlackRock Director - Climate Infrastructure Investing in New York, New York

About this role

BlackRock’s Climate Infrastructure team is seeking a Director to join its global team based in the New York office as part of the investment team. This position will play a key role in driving the origination, execution, and oversight of direct equity investments made into climate infrastructure across the Americas primarily for the Global Renewable Power franchise. This individual will be expected to work closely with the team to cultivate industry relationships, to originate and execute on investment opportunities and to manage those investments over time.

BlackRock is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual interested in working in a fast-paced, international environment as a member of a closely knit team in the alternative investment industry. The candidate assumes a multi-faceted role which requires a passion for climate infrastructure investments, deep industry experience, and strong analytical and conceptual skills. Strong project management skills and experience negotiating complex legal agreements are important capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

The role will require investment expertise, and relationships with sponsors, developers as well as strategics in the climate infrastructure space in the Americas. This person will:

  • Drive the origination strategy and activities for climate infrastructure investments, across wind, solar, EV, grid and transmission

  • Lead origination, due diligence, structuring, negotiation and closing of direct investment opportunities

  • Risk assessment and risk mitigation

  • Lead ongoing management of completed investments and, in due course, exit processes

  • Develop a network and establish partnerships with key stakeholders across the ecosystem (e.g., policy/regulatory and transaction sourcing, due diligence, and execution)

  • Be part of a global investment team that covers origination, execution and portfolio management responsibilities for the global renewable power portfolio

Knowledge/Experience:

  • 9 years+ of work experience in a professional environment with strong exposure to the climate infrastructure sector and making direct equity investments

  • Deep existing network in the climate infrastructure market providing a strong basis for origination activity with clear knowledge and track-record in clean power and energy specifically

  • Candidates could also be considered with robust backgrounds in related infrastructure teams in a project finance and / or investment banking / M&A environment

  • Hands-on approach, and willing to dig-in drive focused client-focused origination and lead transactions on a day-to-day basis

  • Strong financial analytical, teamworking and communication skills required

  • Candidates are expected to have a strong academic background and highly rated in their careers to date; MBA and/or other advanced degree is helpful

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Leadership and client management / networking skills

  • Operational experience and technical knowledge in renewable energy generation and associated infrastructure

  • Attention to detail and a strong process-oriented approach to their work

  • Commercial acumen with robust analytical skills and conceptual skills with attention to detail

  • Proven project management and organization skills

  • Persuasive and polished written and oral communication skills capable of dealing with internal and external teams

  • Ability to effectively distil complex concepts into clear and simple themes

  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills that can be leveraged for our fundraising efforts

  • Demonstrates entrepreneurial spirit and willing to assume additional responsibilities

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $240,000 - $300,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
