Sustainability and Reputational Risk Management
The Sustainability Risk team is a dedicated and dynamic group within RQA that partners with risk managers and businesses to oversee sustainability risk across the platform. The team works to enable risk managers to evaluate financially material sustainability risks to ensure that such risks are understood, deliberate and consistent with client objectives. Sustainability Risk also leverages the latest technologies to research new and emerging risks related climate change, the transition to a low carbon economy and natural capital and biodiversity, collaborating with leading subject matter assets across the firm.
This role also offers a great opportunity to work closely with the fast-growing BlackRock Alternatives businesses to perform independent due diligence and reputational analysis of private investments made in a variety of structures, jurisdictions and industries (e.g., private equity, infrastructure, real estate, direct lending, etc). Diligence results have visibility at the most senior levels of the organization, including with BlackRock’s Chief Risk Officer, Chief Legal Officer and Alternative businesses’ Chief Investment Officers (CIOs).
Key Responsibilities:
The candidate will support multiple projects across the Sustainability Risk team maintaining connectivity and deliverables that cover both sustainability and reputational risk. He/She/They will perform all operational risk responsibilities for the Alternatives business with a focus on managing the Private Asset Risk Screening (PARS) process.
Sustainability Risk
Build rapport and partner with colleagues in functions across the firm including Portfolio Management, Financial Crime, Litigation, Investment Risk, Fund Accounting, Valuations and Business Operations.
Support cross functional governance committee inputs and action items for Sustainable and Transition Investment Committee, Sustainable Investment Data Assessment Committee and Global Reputational Risk Committee.
Coordinate annual reviews and ongoing management of content related to ESG integration (firm wide communications, training, reporting, RFP/DDQ standard language).
Drive quarterly Chief Investment Officer and Global Executive Committee updates on sustainability theme exposures.
Work with the Sustainability Risk team to deliver ongoing education and training to empower risk managers (monthly Key Partners Metting, newsletter, performance reporting, training materials etc.)
Alternatives/PARS
Assist Reputational Risk Committee coordinator to evolve and scale the reputational risk program by partnering with Corporate Communication, External Affairs and Marketing; support quarterly executive level meetings.
Partner with alternatives deal teams to scope and source third party due diligence reports; Leverage reputational risk vendor applications to mine headlines and develop watchlists to monitor changes at portfolio companies.
Prepare weekly deal pipeline materials and drive discussions on high-risk deals
Triage operating events impacting covered businesses, facilitate annual RCSAs and influence change through process improvements.
Knowledge/Experience:
4+ years of experience in financial services, preferably within Risk Management, Investments, Legal or Middle Office, Sustainability.
Ability to quickly digest complex issues and independently research facts to inform decisions with consequence.
Excellent analytical capabilities; curiosity, critical thinking, accuracy and problem-solving within a deadline-oriented environment.
Superior organizational and project management skills and ability to work concurrently on multiple deliverables across a variety of stakeholders.
Strong communication skills and an ability to present complex information succinctly to senior decision makers
Good negotiation skills and ability to collaborate with multiple teams so that functional / organizational objectives are achieved.
BS/BA required, preferably in Finance, Operations Research, Economics, Sustainability or similar technical field.
Python coding skills a plus.
For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $147,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
