BlackRock Vice President - Lead Semantic Optimization Engineer in Mumbai, India

About this role

Role Brief:

The role of VP Lead Performance Engineer is to ensure high availability of mission-critical data, enable data security / compliance and optimize ingress, egress to meet client SLA’s.

To ensure success in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience in optimization techniques that includes caching, load balancing, analyzing query plans/index/schemas, query interceptor. You should have a strong understanding of cloud infra, database architecture, data modeling and exposure to docker, K8s. Knowledge in observability tools is an added advantage. A top notch performance engineer should be able to reduce TCO.

Typically, you work in a multi-disciplinary squad (we follow Agile!) which involves partnering with program, product managers, data stewards and general management to expand product offering based on business demands. Our goal is to drive up user engagement and adoption of the product while constantly working towards modernizing and improving product offering, performance, and scalability.

Support deployment and maintenance that requires close interaction with various teams. This requires maintaining a positive and collaborative working relationship with teams within Aladdin data as well as with Data Experience, Developer community. Production support for applications is usually required for issues that cannot be resolved by operations team. Creative and inventive problem-solving skills for reduced turnaround times are highly valued.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Optimize ingress and egress with an eye on TCO

  • Partner with data ingestion, data virtualization and data visualization tracks for all their optimization needs

  • Define and Drive optimization strategies

  • Define and implement data/query caching

  • Evaluating existing data systems for efficiency that includes data security

  • Resource planning by performing schema, index, query analysis during peak and non-peak periods

  • Developing best practices for data ingestion, data extraction and efficient data queries

  • Hands on experience in enabling query interceptor

  • Familiarity with open source tools like ProxySQL/HAProxy is an added advantage

  • Support dynamic entitlements

  • Recommend and implement emerging technologies

  • Production support

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a similar field.

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with performance tuning for ingress and egress

  • Hands-on experience in caching strategies

  • Hands-on experience in query interceptor tools

  • Knowledge in data virtualization tools like Denodo

  • Experience in fine tuning queries from data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI

  • Expertise in Snowflake or related database like DataBricks is an added advantage

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
