Business Unit Overview:

BlackRock Private Debt is the private investment business unit of BlackRock’s Global Fundamental Credit Platform. BlackRock’s Private Debt Platform comprises more than 200 investment professionals located in 19 BlackRock offices with more than $84 billion of AUM. We are a dedicated investment team focused on providing debt capital solutions through directly originated investments across the capital structure.

Role Description:

Investors in private investment funds are increasingly turning to Net Asset Value (“NAV”) financing because it can potentially improve fund returns and give fund managers flexibility to manage the fund’s portfolio at a time when the fund likely has already called most or all of the investors’ capital commitments. To take advantage of this growing market, BlackRock Private Debt is hiring an investment professional who will be responsible for sourcing, evaluating, structuring and executing quality credit facilities provided to private equity funds, including NAV facilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role in developing and growing BlackRock’s dedicated fund finance strategy

  • Financial Modeling and Investment Due Diligence:

  • Developing, analyzing, and dissecting financial models to assess new investment opportunities

  • Conducting due diligence on borrowers and their sponsors

  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative asset level credit analysis including data synthesis and trend summaries

  • Leading diligence sessions with third parties including banks, brokers, LPs, and GP managers

  • Overseeing and preparing investment committee materials and presenting investment recommendations to the investment committee and clients

  • Deal Execution:

  • Providing input on or leading negotiation of terms and conditions for transactions to ensure appropriate structuring / documentation

  • Coordinating with service providers and internal BlackRock groups (e.g., legal, tax, risk) to manage the closing of new investments

  • Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Monitoring performance developments in existing investments and preparing materials in support of internal performance review meetings, external investor reports, and board meetings

  • Business Strategy & Origination:

  • Participating in business development and the origination process

  • Assisting in the preparations of marketing materials and conducting industry/market research

  • Developing a network of contacts and interacting with management teams, potential borrowers and private equity sponsors, industry sources, and other investment professionals; representing BlackRock at industry forums

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree with strong academic background

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, leveraged finance, direct lending, private debt investing, structured credit or credit secondaries

  • Familiarity with private equity and private debt fund structures, and a broad spectrum of fund finance products. Experience in NAV and Asset-backed facilities is preferred.

  • Experience in structuring, underwriting, and executing transactions, including familiarity with the negotiation of financing terms and legal documentation

  • Strong financial modeling and critical reasoning skills

  • Self-starter with enthusiasm to work in an entrepreneurial environment

  • Strong presentation skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytical, project management, and organizational skills; ability to manage workload effectively and deliver quality work on schedule

  • Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong relationships with team members and investment professionals across the industry

  • Motivated team player and ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative team

  • Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and thrive with increased ownership and responsibilities

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $147,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
