About this role

The Aladdin Financial Engineering (AFE) team is responsible for the research and development of financial models underpinning the risk management analytics produced at BlackRock. The group also contributes to the infrastructure and software responsible for the production of analytics and the delivery of analytic content to portfolio and risk management professionals both within and outside BlackRock.

Specifically, the group supports the most sophisticated risk model bundle in the asset management industry, covering multi-factor risk models, liquidity models, value at risk (VaR) calculation, stress testing, and portfolio optimization.

The Portfolio Risk Engineering team in AFE Quant Tech is looking for an experienced engineer to join the team to contribute to the development and maintenance of Aladdin risk models and analytics platform. The risk models are used to provide risk oversight and within the portfolio construction processes of BlackRock and Aladdin Client investment strategies. The engineer will work on our risk modelling applications and platform in direct partnership with our AFE Modelling and Research teams.

Job Responsibilities:

The candidate will be performing duties related to all aspects of portfolio analytics development:

  • Build and evolve our technology platform and applications to better deliver models and analytics to clients.

  • Build quantitative software to solve various type of portfolio risk analysis problems with accuracy and scale.

  • Apply fast-growing technologies such as machine learning and cloud technologies to enable more powerful modelling and analysis.

  • Work together with researchers to design, develop, and test new and improved financial models.

  • Contribute to high-profile projects that advance BlackRock’s top strategic priorities.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of proven programming experience using Python/Java or other technologies.

  • Prior experience with enterprise software development or complex research/engineering academic projects.

  • Ability to apply existing algorithms or models to real-world investment and business problems.

  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, and maturity to adapt to the needs of a dynamic group and deliver within strict timeframes.

  • Technical curiosity, detail focused and strong communication skills.

  • Undergraduate or advanced degree in computer science, financial engineering, mathematics, or related fields.

  • Familiarity with financial, mathematical, and statistical theory is a plus.

Our hybrid work model
