BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (MASS) business is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and innovative alpha insights. Our team of 300+ multi-asset investment professionals construct active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels. Currently, MASS (Multi Assest Strategy & Solutions) handles over $1 trillion in assets and has a strong presence in San Francisco, New York, London and throughout Asia Pacific.

Team Overview:

The Americas Pensions team within the MASS business constructs and builds active asset allocation strategies and Outsourced Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) solutions using Blackrock and third-party managers across public and private markets. The team handles approximately $80 billion in client assets as of 31 December 2023 for Pension clients across the Americas. Our investment decisions harness the collective insights of our +2,000 investors on the ground in virtually every established investable market, with every portfolio managed through our comprehensive portfolio and risk management system Aladdin.

Role Description, Responsibilities & Qualifications:

The team is looking for a motivated individual that will play a key role in our investment mandates by owning and supporting many phases of our investment process for existing clients, and to help win new clients. This individual will also be encouraged to contribute to portfolio management, research and analysis, and find ways to improve efficiency and timeliness of deliverables. This is a great opportunity for a resourceful problem-solver to be part of a dynamic team and get exposure to multi-asset investing by working closely with Client CIOs, institutional account managers, and end clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with our New York and California based Americas OCIO investment team members to grow and scale the business and optimally service clients.

  • Support creation and delivery of customized investment solutions to current and prospective OCIO clients, including the ability to develop/modify pension asset-liability, portfolio construction and manager blending models.

  • Contribute to business growth by playing a prominent role in RFPs and pitch materials.

  • Own internal processes (e.g. updating performance track records, on-going market commentary, supervising client reporting) and finding ways to improve efficiency and timeliness of output.

  • Engage with internal teams throughout BlackRock to build and implement scaled Aladdin-based technology solutions to address investment and reporting challenges.

  • Contribute to new product design, as well as the improvement of existing product offerings and servicing.

  • Participate in broader MASS investment research initiatives.

  • Build and maintain an in-depth knowledge of the full suite of solutions offered by BlackRock and third-party managers across public and private markets.

  • Build and maintain knowledge of the broader themes, trends, and competitive landscape for U.S. corporate pension plans and the OCIO market in general.

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the Institutional Client Business and the Global Consultant Relations teams who are primarily responsible for managing and developing BlackRock’s client and consulting relationships.

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with asset classes across Equity, Fixed Income and Alternatives.

  • Experience with a wide array of institutional investment products and strategies, including Liability-driven investing.

  • Understanding of multi-asset portfolio construction, risk and performance measurement.

  • Understanding of defined benefit pensions and mechanics around actuarial and investment philosophy is a plus.

  • A keen interest and curiosity in financial markets, economics, current affairs, policy measures and global mega trends.

  • Degree or higher-level qualification and demonstrated record of academic achievement.

  • 3-5 years of asset management experience involving risk analysis, portfolio construction, performance analysis and investment research initiatives.

  • Excellent communication skills in writing and speech; capable of connecting with multiple audiences and adapting style of communication in real time.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Tools: Strong expertise in financial modelling using Excel and potentially in coding languages (Python, VBA, etc.). Experience in leverage visualization and dashboarding tools like tableau/PowerBI is a plus.

  • Achievement of CFA/FRM/CAIA/CIPM or equivalent qualifications preferred.
