Technology & Operations – Derivative Operations
On behalf of BlackRock clients, Global Investment Operations (“GIO”) is mainly focussed on post-trade execution and asset servicing of products worldwide. Investment Operations’ mission is to protect our clients’ investments by helping to establish policies, implement controls, and ensure scale, efficiency and consistency in the operating process, with the common goal of actively mitigating risk and exposure. A major component within GIO is the global Derivative Operations function. Within the function, the Derivative Documentation team is responsible for accurate and efficient pre-trade activity which ensures any post-trade requirements can be undertaken by the Collateral Management team.
Derivative Documentation (“DD”)
The Derivative Documentation team is responsibile for managing the on-boarding of BlackRock funds and separate client mandates to our master trading agreements with approved derivative counterparties, such as the large investment banks. Being papered under the master trading agreements is imperative to enable any Over the Counter (OTC) or Exchange Traded Derivative transactions.
The group maintains key on-boarding functions in the global operating model for all forms of derivatives, including bi-lateral OTC, Cleared OTC, exchange traded futures and options, as well as other activities under master trading agreements, such as Repo activity under global GMRA agreeemnts. The team plays an integral role within the organisation interacting with multiple internal partners, including portfolio managers and trading desks, and also has extensive dealings with external parties, predominately their Legal, Credit and On-Boarding teams. Facilitation of strong working relationships with all of these parties is imperative.
In addition to the daily responsibilities, you will participate in firm wide initiatives and projects as well as contributing to the department’s global operating model with constant and consistent focus on mitigating risks, providing strong oversight and control to our operational processes, while looking to make continuous improvements.

What Will You Do?
As an Analyst within the Derivative Documentation team, you will have the chance to play a key role in ensuring the current high performance of the global team is maintained and we continue to meet all client and business partner needs. As a valued member within the team, you will bring your passion, energy, drive and prior working experiences to help further establish a dynamic, diverse and forward thinking team in a core BlackRock location.
You will have the chance to play an important role in an exciting new phase of the team’s evolution as the documentation tasks evolve to meet more stringent regulatory regimes and the growing complexity of our broad client base.
You will work with your manager to achieve benchmark in client service excellence, on-boarding execution, whilst focussing on risk mitigation practises and process improvement initiatives. Above all, you will be responsible for helping create a culture of openess, inclusion and proactive engagement at all levels, developing a more technology driven environment for account on-boarding.
You will have a unique opportunity to develop strong relationships internally across many business functions together with BlackRock’s many external providers (such as brokers, clearing houses and service providers). BlackRock will give you the tools to develop technical expertise that will connect industry intelligence and market trends with BlackRock’s technology and operational capabilities to help define and execute clear business requirements that will evolve the future process.
As data sits at the heart of BlackRock operational capability, you will have chance to access the extensive Aladdin database to help drive and influence key decisions. You will utilise this information to work closely with our technology partners and other subject matter experts from across the firm to finesse our documentation on-boarding and improve scale and efficiency.There will be opportunities to get involved with process re-engineering, robotics and project manage the full automation of manualtasks.
Develop and maintain close relationships and partnerships with BlackRock colleagues as well as with external service providers, partners and counterparties.
Oversee and manage internal and external service provider relationships – ensure successful delivery of contracted services, proactively address and resolve issues.
Be responsible for updating agreement amendments as part of the on-boarding of accounts to BLK’s ISDA master agreements.
Partner with our Exchange Traded Derivatives clearers to open new Clearing agreements.
Work with internal and external teams to add funds to GMRA agreements for Repo trading.
Monitor and review the DOCs platform for updates to the Electronic Give-Up Agreements.
Be accountable for inputting legal and derivative static data into the DECO system to support trading and collateral processes.
Fully utilise all BlackRock internal systems (Aladdin) and ensure information is up to date and relevant.
Key liaison between multiple business lines globally and the Investment Operation teams in a number of locations.
Contribute to overseeing strategic architecture and design on platform enhancements to operational processes.
Support critical internal relationships with the Trading teams, PMs, Client RMs, Compliance and Legal.
Partner with colleagues in maintaining and managing relationships with counterparties.
When required, be the Derivative Documentation representative for external parties including clients, auditors and consultants.
Learn to adhere to stringent operational risk management targets (Key Risk Indicators / Key Process Indicators)
Help create a culture of openess, inclusion and proactive engagement at all levels, developing a “bottom up” approach to problem solving that favours creative, data driven, “outside of the box” solutions.
