BlackRock Vice President, APAC Institutional COO team (Strategy Lead) in Hong Kong, Hong Kong

About this role

BlackRock’s APAC Institutional business is looking for an experienced Sales Strategy and Planning VP to lead cross-organizational distribution strategy, planning and support across our regional business. You are expected to lead the formulation of plans for our front-line sales efforts, to ensure our resources are focused on the highest opportunities, driving analytics and synthesizing findings to inform overall strategy. The role requires strong collaboration with BlackRock’s sales teams and internal partners across APAC’s diverse institutional segments to facilitate client relationships and account management. The successful candidate will oversee efforts across all the offices we operate from in APAC and will be focused on driving efficiency, quality, consistency, and scale in supporting our sales endeavors.

The team supports all stages of the sales process, from partnering with Sales leaders on overall client strategy, through to account planning. It also acts as a key point of connection between clients, sales teams, and the broader firm – including product specialists, portfolio managers and our operations teams. The candidate should also be focused on identifying process improvements, the ability to pool resources, and potential automation opportunities to drive greater efficiencies and consistency across sales and sales support processes. The role provides an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious candidate to further their career, working with experienced senior leaders. You will be responsible for orchestrating the firms focus for some of the largest and most influential organizations in the world. The role will report to the COO and Head of Business Strategy for APAC Institutional and work closely with the Head of APAC Institutional distribution & deputy head of APAC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a leading role in Sales Strategy & Planning for APAC institutional clients. Partner with the APAC Institutional COO and APAC Head of Institutional to define, design and execute on the future state for Sales Strategy and Planning ensuring the department is focused on the biggest commercial opportunities.

  • Drive market or channel/ segment distribution strategy

  • Lead market sizing and opportunity assessment to develop execution plans in the region.

  • Market and competitor landscape surveillance

  • Create materials to communicate strategic plans to senior management across the region and globally.

  • Work closely with sales leaders across the business to build client-level strategy, partner in scoping potential opportunities, and create strong, results-oriented account plans to drive commercial success.

  • Ensure consistency and quality across all client-facing deliverables created to support sales team efforts – including sales collateral and presentations.

  • Maintain close connections with colleagues performing similar roles across our European and US Institutional businesses to identify and share best practice and align on key global platform priorities.

  • Prepare presentations, talking points and briefing memos for the Head of APAC institutional’ s client engagements, industry conferences, internal communications, board presentations, etc.

  • Play a leading role in the region’s initiatives to implement and improve the CRM platform.

  • Business Management: including budget responsibilities; analysing financial reporting to inform business investment decisions.

  • Handle special projects and ad-hoc incoming requests.

Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of financial services/consulting industry experience

  • Fluency in English, with exceptional verbal and written skills. Regional language skills a plus.

  • Strong track record in leading, developing and presenting business strategy. Proven analytical capabilities.

  • Advanced PowerPoint and memo writing skills; ability to quickly produce executive/board-level presentations, business memos, utilizing data and synthesizing key information.

  • Strong ‘client first’ background with experience of creating top quality deliverables at scale and speed strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of APAC institutional asset management landscape, key product offerings (mutual funds, ETFs, private markets) etc. and clients.

  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment, while proactively identifying potential challenges and mitigating/escalating these as appropriate

  • Ability to communicate upcoming deliverables and objectives, influence stakeholders and effectively initiate and manage projects with agreed timeline, clear and consultative guidance, and empathy.

  • Team player with high level of motivation and inquisitiveness, comfortable with ambiguity and the ability to function well under stress or time pressure.

  • Intellectually curious with the ability to take initiative and deliver results in a matrixed organization.

  • Strong ownership mentality and extremely high attention to detail sense of urgency around management, stakeholder and client requests.

  • Unquestioned integrity, discretion and the highest ethical standards.
